Steve has been providing comprehensive financial planning services in Durango, Colorado since he became a Certified Financial Planner™ professional (CFP®) in the 1980s. Steve's first career as a CPA was focused on income and estate tax planning strategies aimed at individuals and their businesses. Since 1997 Steve has devoted his attention to managing Intelligent Investment Management, LLP, applying the skills honed as a CPA to Intelligent Investment Management's proprietary, fee-only, investment strategies.
Prior to moving to Durango in 1984, Steve worked in southern California as a CPA for two international public accounting firms and a NYSE publicly traded company. Steve's career as a CPA started upon his graduation from the University of Utah in 1970 with an accounting degree. As an active member of the Durango community, having served in a broad variety of leadership positions in the Durango High Noon Rotary Club, La Plata Open Space Conservancy, the Boys and Girls Club of La Plata County and Toastmasters.
When not managing client investments, Steve spends as much time as possible enjoying life with his wife, Jeannie, and their family on horseback, skiing, or enjoying sunrises and sunsets wherever they are. It should be noted that the Wheeldon's investment portfolio looks just like the portfolios of their clients, invested for a secure retirement and the future education of their grandchildren.
